Each year, schools from all over Australia are invited by the Australian Defence Force to nominate students for the Long Tan Awards to recognise the contribution of students to Leadership and Teamwork.
In 2020, an additional award was introduced 鈥 The ADF Future Innovators Award 鈥 to recognise recipients鈥 science and mathematics abilities while highlighting the value the Navy, Army and Air Force place on STEM skills and STEM career opportunities within Defence.
The Long Tan Awards were introduced in memory of those soldiers who served and those who died in the battle of Long Tan, which is considered one of the most significant battles in which Australian troops fought during the Vietnam War.
At the Long Tan Assembly at the St Peter鈥檚 Campus this week, four students received awards. One student each in Years 10 and 12 received the Long Tan Award, while one student each in Years 10 and 12 received the ADF Future Innovators Award.
Congratulations to Indiana Kildey (Year 10) and Lauren Hall (Year 12), who received the Long Tan Award in recognition of their leadership, teamwork, problem solving, resourcefulness, communication, and community service.
The ADF Future Innovators Award was presented to Darcy Thripp (Year 10) and Jessica Lubinski (Year 12) to recognise their skill and innovation in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Accompanying each of the awards was a scholarship of $250 for the Year 10 recipient, and $550 for the Year 12 recipient.
