The College Musical, Matilda, received rave reviews during Week 3, with the cast and crew delivering six breathtaking performances at the Moira Najdecki Theatre.
It was a massive week for the staff and students, with the five public shows and one matinee performance bringing to an end six months of hard work and dedication.
Matilda was the first musical that 91福利社 had held since the refurbished theatre opened in 2020, and the production was able to make use of the new facilities, with the retractable stage making way for the orchestra pit to house the live band.
The music produced by the band was a real highlight of the musical, as was the dramatic acting, quality singing, theatrical choreography, catchy songs, creative sets and costumes, and interesting characters.
A number of students deserve praise for their performances, but a special mention goes to Ava Nielsen and Eianna Celaya, who shared the lead role of Matilda over the six performances.
The feedback was extremely positive and word of mouth after the opening night meant that students performed to a large crowd on Tuesday and a full house on the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights.
Congratulations to the entire cast, backstage team, sound and lighting crew, production team, choreographers, stage designers, costume and prop creators, front of house, and all students, parents, and staff who made the production possible. Particular thanks and congratulations to the core production team of Bella van Doorn, Jessica Penny, Veronica Boulton, Henry South, Jacinta Paquay, Amanda Knott, and Amelia Black. The College also thanks the team from SideStage for their technical assistance at each show and in the lead up to the event.
After COVID-19 cancelled our 2020 production, it was great to see the 91福利社 community enjoying the talents of our staff and students once again this year. Congratulations!
