Mindygari鈥檚 long wait for a Championship Trophy came to an end at Dickson Aquatic Centre yesterday as it claimed its first victory at the Swimming Carnival since 1998.
In the Spirit Cup, Ngadyung managed to hold off enthusiastic challenges from the other three houses to claim its fourth such trophy.
Whilst Ngadyung鈥檚 win brought it level with Gurabang as the College鈥檚 most successful House in the pool, the real talking point was the end to Mindygari鈥檚 trophy drought. Even former students of the College who once belonged to Mindygari expressed their delight on social media, and students from other houses offered messages of congratulations once the results came in.
The battle for the Spirit Cup started as soon as students arrived, with a series of enthusiastic House Chants setting the scene for a competitive and energetic day. Students dressed in their House colours and themes, with Gurabang dressing as 鈥榮oldiers鈥, Meup Meup as 鈥Where鈥檚 Wally?鈥, Mindygari as 鈥榖ees and daisies鈥, and Ngadyung as 鈥榮ailors鈥.
The themes were widely supported by the students as they swam in races, cheered endlessly for their teammates and peers, and participated in novelty events throughout the day.
The Swimming Carnival also kicked off Caritas fundraising for 2017. Students were able to request songs for money and participate in fundraising games in Cartitas Corner. During Lent, the College will raise funds for Caritas鈥 Project Compassion, and will aim to beat last year鈥檚 record total of $18,990.
Students are to be congratulated for their teamwork, spirit, high levels of participation, and their displays of athleticism in the pool. Thank you to the staff 鈥 especially the new Sports Facilitator, Mr Braden Longo 鈥 who played a crucial role in making the day a great success.
