Following Year 12鈥檚 amazing efforts in the Relay for Life, Cancer Council ACT invited Mr Peter Johnson, the Year 12 Coordinator, and four students to the launch of Australia鈥檚 Biggest Morning Tea last week.
The top two individual fundraisers in the Relay, Jade Camilleri and Ava Rezo-Kolak, as well as College Captains Lilly Vassallo and Zac Cunningham, joined Mr Johnson at the launch, which was held at Government House on Wednesday morning.
The students were personally thanked and congratulated by the Governor-General, David Hurley, and Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley, for their Relay for Life efforts. The Year 12 cohort managed to raised over $58,000 for the Relay, beating the previous school record by $30,000.
When speaking with The Canberra Times, Jade spoke about the personal and collective motivation behind the fundraising efforts.
鈥淟ots of us have loved ones who have been affected by cancer, but as a group, everyone just got on board and donated and really wanted to make a difference in the cancer community,鈥 she said.
Of course, the fundraising efforts of Year 12 were not possible without the many, many people in our community who donated to the cause. The College once again would like to thank all who contributed.
Cancer Council ACT鈥檚 fundraising focus has now shifted from the Relay for Life to the Biggest Morning Tea. If you would like to register to host an event or would like to donate, visit
